It's a cold month so make sure you wrap up warm – you may even see a dusting of snow so appropriate footwear is recommended. The sales are on, meaning you can shop at some of London's top shopping destinations for less.

The New Year's Day Parade gets the year off to a great start, with marching brass bands and colourful floats winding through the city or set sail for the London Boat Show, which showcases hundreds of water-bound vessels of all shapes and sizes.

Take a step into the surreal at The London International Mime Festival, a celebration of visual theatre that welcomes the world’s best mime artists and companies to venues across London.

Browse and buy contemporary British art at the London Art Fair, with work on display from more than 100 galleries.

On 25 January, in some bars and restaurants in London you'll be able to celebrate the anniversary of the Scottish poet and lyricist, Robert Burns, on Burns Night, with a plate of haggis and tatties.

Helpful service...

The helpful service and information given was wonderful. The breakfast was good... the room was neat and clean with large fluffy towels, hairdryer, coffee pot. Great bargain!

Micheal, Luxemburg
